Funeral Services for Vera Burrell, 96, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Fairview, Oklahoma. Grandson Titus Burrell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Vera was born January 13, 1923 in Waurika, Oklahoma to Elmer D. and Roxie Phoebe (Whitfield) Pickering and died November 22, 2019 at the Seiling Nursing Center, Seiling, Oklahoma.
Vera’s mother died in 1930 when she was only 7 years old and with her dad working in the oil industry and could not care for her, Vera with some of her younger siblings were placed in the orphanage in Helena, Oklahoma. She remained there until Ralph and Nettie Davison took her from the orphanage and raised her. She attended a small school west of Fairview and graduated from Cheyenne Valley High School. Vera married Wayne Burrell April 13, 1941 in Fairview. Shortly after they were married, Wayne joined the Army Air Corp and served in Africa, Europe and finally Japan before being honorable discharged at the end of WWII.
Vera and Wayne farmed all their life. She was a busy homemaker and farm wife raised two boys, and one girl. During harvest she would cook all the meals for the harvest crew. She was an active member of the Fairview Church of God Seventh Day all her life. Vera enjoyed sewing, painting, reading and most of all traveling. She took a trip to Alaska, Hawaii, and many trips to Branson, Missouri
Vera is survived by her daughter, Linda Rich of Fairview, two daughters-in-law Linda and Donna, one brother Claude Pickering; twelve grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, three Great Great Grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, sons, Ivan and Denis Burrell, three brothers, one sister, one grandson Justin Burrell, and one great granddaughter Savannah Burrell.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Alzheimer’s Division.
