The funeral for Denis Keith Burrell, 55, of Fairview, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview. The Revs. David Mendenhall, Chuck McKinney, Wilbur Dornberger, Don Duncan, Ron Roskam, Daryl Scott and Leo Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery, northwest of Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Mon-day at the church.
He was born Oct. 3, 1950, in Enid to Wayne and Vera Pickering Burrell and died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City.
He grew up in Fairview, where he attended school for 10 years. He graduated from Spring Vale Academy in Owasso, Mich., in 1967. He then attended Midwest Bible College in Stanberry, Mo., graduating in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in theology.
He married Donna Schwartz July 15, 1973, in Auburn, Wash. His first pastoral assignment was for the Church of God Seventh Day in Central City, Neb. For the next 14 years he served as pastor for many churches across the United States. In 1987, they returned to Fairview. He served as pastor for the Church of God Seventh Day for 32 years. He was chaplain for the Department of Corrections for 15 years and worked at James Crabtree Correctional Center. He was a member of Fairview Ministerial Alliance and Interfaith Council of Prison Ministries.
Surviving are his wife, Donna, of Fairview; his mother, Vera Burrell of Fairview; four sons, Titus, Christian and Matthew Burrell, all of Fairview, and Abraham Burrell of Yukon; two daughters, Talitha Burrell of Fairview and Anna Burrell of Oklahoma City.; one brother, Ivan Burrell of Fairview; a sister, Linda Burrell of Fairview; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home or Fairview Farmers and Merchants Bank to the Denis Burrell Memorial Fund.
