Tommy Dean Shaffer went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 30, 2020. Tom was born in Enid on March 10, 1951, to Gerald and Mary Ann Frech Shaffer. He grew up in the Ringwood area and graduated from Ringwood High School in 1969. He was very proud to be part of the winning state champion boys basketball team.
Tom worked in construction as well as farming and ranching. He then spent 21 years serving the citizens of Major County as a law enforcement officer and retired as sheriff in 2007. Tom served his Lord faithfully as an elder at Central Christian Church in Fairview.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Mary Ann Shaffer.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Shaffer of Ringwood; his sister, Linda Reninger of Edmond; three children, Geoff and Tonya Shaffer of Canyon Lake, Texas, Shanna and John Hiscock of Pullman, Wash., and Brent and Lensey Shaffer of Wagoner; four step-children, Diana Goodson of Elk City, Debbie Goodson of Fairview, Gene and Tracy Goodson of Fairview and Toni Sanders of Canton; five grandchildren, Sage Shaffer, Cameron Shaffer, Zaine Pumphrey, Stone Shaffer and Levi Shaffer and numerous loved step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers Tom's family asks that donations be made to the Oklahoma Sheriff's Association or The Badge of Honor Memorial Foundation through the funeral home.
There will be a private family graveside service for Tom at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Helena. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
Tom's family plans to have a memorial service to celebrate his life at a later date.
