The funeral for Carolyn Ruth Christal, 95-year-old Enid resident, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 22,2024 at Enid First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Bruce Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Meno under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Carolyn was born July 24, 1929 in Enid to Guy and Ora (Hipsher) Hays and passed on Sunday, August 18,2024 at Greenbrier Nursing Home. She attended Ringwood Schools and graduated with the class of 1947 as the valedictorian. She attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas obtaining her undergraduate degree in Home Economics. She later earned her master's degree at Phillips University in Education.
On July 21,1962 she married Jimmie Christal in Ringwood. The couple made their home on Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in TX. They moved to Enid in 1965 where she taught English at Enid High from 1967 until retirement in 1992. She was a member of Enid First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday School and choir.
She and Jimmie enjoyed traveling in their RV and entertaining friends on their property in Ringwood, where they had a private pond and loved fishing on it.
She is survived by her nieces Karol McKee and husband Steve of Liberal, KS., Karen Fiorini and husband Dale of Knoxville, TN., and Becky Pape and husband Stephen of Dallas, TX. and nephews, Ritchie Hays and wife Kim of Enid and Randy Hays and wife Naomi of Midlothian, TX, as well as her sister-in law Ladonna Hays. She was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Ora, husband Jimmie, and two brothers Jay and Neil and nephew Rodney Hays.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Gideon International.
