Orion Cemetery


WANDA CARLYN HURT, 85, formerly of Chester, went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 21, 2015.

Wanda was born on Sunday, January 19, 1930 in Fairview to Roy D. and Veta B. (Horn) Strecker. She was raised and educated in the Chester area. On Saturday, January 4, 1947 she married the love of her life Alfred F. Hurt “Shorty”, and to this union five children were born. Wanda and Alfred first made their home in Arcata, California for a year before moving to Chester in 1949. In 1958, they moved to the Enid area, where they stayed until 1972. From 1972 to 1990 the couple lived in Meno, OK before resettling in Chester in 1990, where she remained until her health started failing. Wanda was a devoted wife and mother who spent her time caring for her family. She especially enjoyed sewing in her spare time.

In addition to her parents Roy and Veta, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Alfred F. Hurt in 1998; two sons Alfred L. Hurt and Leo Dean Hurt; sister Twyla Terry; and granddaughter Megan Hurt.

Left to carry on her legacy are children Carrie Jones, Vicky Swanson, and Jon Hurt and wife Alice; daughter-in-law Donna Hurt; brothers Don Strecker and Stanley Strecker; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Orville White presiding. Burial will follow at Orion Cemetery.

Memorial Donations in Wanda’s honor may be made to the Chester Historical Society c/o Redinger Funeral Home, Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663.
