Fairview – Funeral services for Francis Otto (F. O.) Gerwin, 82, will be at 2 PM Sunday in the Orion Baptist Church, west of Fairview, with the Rev. Robert McCutcheon and the Rev. Anthem Wade officiating.
Burial will be in the Orion Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home.
Gerwin died Thursday morning in his home west of Fairview. He was born January 28, 1899, in Peny, Arkansas, the son of Herman and Johanna Nemki Gerwin. He and Eva Lena Painton were married September 28, 1924, at Orion.
Gerwin was a member of the Orion Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University at Shawnee in 1929 and taught from 1924 until 1942, in eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Gerwin began work for Cities Service in 1943, as a yardman in Wichita and continued with the company until his retirement in July 1961. The Gerwins moved to a home west of Fairview, near Orion, in 1972.
He is survived by his wife Eva Lena of the home; a son, Carl Douglas Gerwin, Wichita, a niece and nephew, Betty Rice, Waldron, Arkansas, James Ramay of Florida; two grandchildren, Cindy Bennett, Donald Gerwin, and three great – grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons two brothers and a sister.
