February 26, 1937 - May 20, 2021
Robert Lee Wichert was born to Emil and Lena Wichert on February 26, 1937, in Enid, Oklahoma. After the untimely passing of Lena in 1937, Emil married Dora Reimer in 1940. Bob spent his childhood on the family farm just northwest of Fairview with his father, mother and older brother Norman. He was saved and baptized at an early age. While attending Fairview High School, Bob played football and basketball. After graduating, he went on to spend a short time at Tabor College where he also played basketball. Later, Bob graduated from Enid Business School. He married Elizabeth Suderman on June 21, 1969 in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. They added to their family a son Trevor Lee and two daughters Amber Noelle and April Nicole.
One of his great joys was working alongside his brother Norman. The brothers spent 20 years custom harvesting together and they also formed Wichert Brothers Construction, building homes in Fairview. One of the highlights of his career was building a wing of the Fairview Fellowship Home Apartments. Bob was known as a hard working man, it was a major part of his life and who he was. However, his greatest joy in life came from his love of God and his family. He was actively involved in the Mennonite Brethren Church his entire life, serving on committees, ushering, and he especially enjoyed he and Liz’s years as MBY youth sponsors. Bob was a loving father and grandfather whose happiest moments were when his family was all together. The last few years of Bob’s life were spent being lovingly cared for by the nurses and staff at the Fairview Fellowship Home. In the early morning hours of May 20, 2021, Bob entered his eternal home with Jesus, surrounded by his family.
Bob is survived by his wife Liz Wichert; children, Trevor Wichert (Amber) of Wichita, KS, Amber Maxey (Richard) of Moore, OK and April Wall (Brian) of Edmond, OK; brother Norman Wichert (Millie) of Fairview, OK; seven grandchildren, Easton, Emersyn and Brooks Maxey, Annie, Brooklyn, Lexie, and Claire Wall. He is preceded in death by his mother Lena; his parents Emil and Dora Wichert.
