April 16, 1919 - November 2, 2008
The funeral for Pete L. Goosen, 89, of Fairview, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Mennonite Brethren Church, Fairview. The Rev. Leonard Vogt will officiate. Burial will be in North Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, Fairview. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc., Fairview. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born April 16, 1919, in Hooker to Pete and Susie Lowen Goosen and died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. He was raised on a farm west of Adams, where he attended school. He married Elsie Weis July 21, 1940, on the Weis farm, west of Fairview. He was baptized July 20, 1941, at Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview. He farmed in the Adams area before moving to Cedar Springs in 1946, where they attended Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene. They farmed on rented land from the Oklahoma School Land Commission. He also raised cattle and wheat and worked for Fairview Livestock Sale Barn for 35 years. He designed and built farm machinery. She died in 2000.
Surviving are one daughter, Janeth Watson of Stillwater; one son, Merl Goosen of Oklahoma City; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Vancampen of Guymon; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Elsie, he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Mennonite Brethren Church, Fairview.
