Clara Wichert
April 7, 1940 - April 23, 2023
On April 23, 2023, Clara Belle Wichert, a Fairview, OK native, left us at the age of 83. She was born on April 7, 1940, in Fairview, OK, and was known for her spunky personality and love for her family.
Clara was the rock of the Wichert family, keeping everyone in line with her wit and humor. She leaves behind her sons, Jeff Wichert and Rex Wichert, and their spouses, Marcy Wichert and Melanie Cross Wichert. She also had a whole crew of grandkids, Kayleen Burton (Jeremiah), Morgan Fiscus (Josh) and Spencer Wichert. Three bonus grandkids, Nick John (Mindy), Ashley Kitchen (TJ) and Jordan John, which she welcomed so lovingly and graciously. Clara had ten great grandchildren who adored her dearly. Abbi, Easton, Emma, Carter, Westin, Jada, Jonah, Ryann, Carsyn, and Kace all who will miss her immensely.
One beloved sister-in-law, Stella Eitzen and numerous nieces, and nephews. Clara is now up in heaven with her beloved husband, Loyd Wichert, and her parents, AB Kliewer and Marie Kliewer and sisters Leona Vogt and Viola Martens. We know they're having a grand old time up there!
A celebration of Clara's life will be held at the Fairview MB Church, where she loved to worship and sing her heart out. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Fairview MB Church AWANA's program or to American Cancer Society research. Clara would have loved that. She served many years as a Pioneer Girls leader and has touched the lives of hundreds of young women. These organizations were dear to her heart. We'll miss you, Clara. Thanks for all the laughs and memories. You truly were a one-of-a-kind woman!
Clara was born at the end of the Dust Bowl and in the middle of World War II. She was not shy about telling friends and strangers how she was born on the farm in the southwest bedroom.
Clara graduated from Corn Bible Academy, then attended nursing school. While Clara was in nursing school she fell in love with a farmer by the name of Loyd Wichert, she did not realize what she was getting herself into. "I was very naive," she would say. "I was barely 19, and we went over to his parents to talk about the wedding. She remembered Loyd's father saying, "We cannot have the wedding until after the wheat is planted. and it is up a couple of inches" The two married in 1959, and Loyd began farming with his father. Clara had grown up on a farm, but her father thought women belonged inside the house. Loyd didn't agree.
When Loyd passed away in 1998, Clara surprised everyone, including herself, and managed her sons in the farming operation. Clara also found new beginnings with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom (AITC). She served on the OFB Women's Committee for 15 years and chaired the committee for nine years. Her involvement with AITC began at Fairview Public Schools (FPS) before there was an organization.
She would come in every month and do a class about agriculture and being known as "Mrs. Agriculture" or the "Ag Lady."
She received many recognitions for her efforts with OFB and AITC. She was a breast cancer survivor since 1982. She would often say and "not because of the two years of chemo, but it's through God." When asked what keeps her going, she would say, "Definitely my faith in God and realizing that he has a plan for my life."
Visitation with the family present will be from 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday evening at Pierce Funeral Home, 721 S. Main, Fairview. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Travis Schmidt officiating. Condolences may be offered at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
