Nellie R. Johnson passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at The Commons-Methodist Home Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at Central Christian Church Chapel. Rev. Don Johnson will officiate with interment to follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Ringwood. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.

Nellie was born at the Ringwood farm of her parents, Emma Rozella Steed and Daniel Peter Johnson on Nov. 10, 1915. After graduating from Ringwood High School she attended Phillips University in Enid and Northwestern State University in Alva where she received her B.S. in education.

A public school teacher for 39 years, she taught math and science for three years at Homestead High School, two years at Lambert High School and 34 years at Emerson Junior High School in Enid.

On the deaths of her sister and brother-in-law, Arelyn Crete Johnson and Horace Jefferson Jenkins, she became guardian of their four children, Walter Daniel, Lavona Ruth, Glenn Robert and Emagene.

She is survived by Glenn Robert of Nashville, TN; Emagene Moore of Boise, ID; nephews, Donald Stobaugh of Jennings and Chester Johnson of Shawnee Mission, KS; and many great-nieces and great-nephews and their families. She also was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Erwin and Glenn, her other sister, Viola Stobaugh, and her nephew Walter and her niece Lavona Keck.

At Nellie’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Givers of Central Christian Church or Hospice Care Circle of Love.
