Vergie L. and Willie B. BLANKENSHIP

Glenwood Cemetery

Longtime Ringwood resident, Vergie L. Blankenship, age 83, passed away Wednesday January 6, 2016, at the Noble Health Care Center.

Vergie LaWanda Barrick was born April 2, 1932 in Arapaho, OK, the 3rd daughter of 5 born to Claud Stewart Barrick and Ida Florene (Burton) Barrick. As a young girl, she learned the value of hard work, side by side with her family in the cotton fields. She grew up in Arapaho and attended school there, graduating in 1950. She later married Willie B. Blankenship and they made their home in Clinton. For several years, Vergie and her husband owned and operated the “B & V” Thrift Store in Clinton. By the time Willie had retired, they decided it was time for a change and moved to Ringwood in the mid 1980’s. Vergie was a gifted artist who enjoyed drawing, embroidery and sewing. She loved cooking, gardening, camping, anything to do with horses, and her beloved dogs. She was a talented musician and would play the banjo while Willie played the guitar, along with her father Claud playing his fiddle. She never missed a good card game. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Willie B. Blankenship; Her parents, Claud and Ida Barrick and 3 sisters, Florene Carr, Irene Barrick and Jayne Barrick.

Vergie leaves behind: Her sister, Claudeen McLaughlin of Clinton; Several close cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
