Ora Maxine Stubsten was born July 25, 1922 in Idana, KS to Irl C. and Velma E. Sterrett Wilkerson and died February 3, 2014 in Fairview, OK at the age of 91. Maxine grew up on a farm near Clifton, KS and graduated from Clifton High School. She enjoyed connecting with classmates and attending reunions.
Maxine married Merle Bernard “Swede” Stubsten June 19, 1941 in the Methodist Parsonage in Clifton, Kansas. Swede and Maxine had two sons, Michael and Mark.
Maxine was a telephone operator with American Telephone Company during the 1940’s. In the 60’s, she was a secretary for Orange Township Consolidated Schools three elementary schools in Waterloo, IA. After Swede’s transfer to Beaver, OK she completed her work career as a clerk for Beaver County ASCS. Maxine loved playing bridge and played in several groups while living in Enid. She loved cats and always managed to have one or two during the retirement years of her life.
Maxine was preceded in death by Swede in 2000 and a granddaughter Lisa Stubsten in 1983.
Maxine is survived by her two sons and their wives, Mike and Shari Stubsten of Pocahontas, AR; and Mark and Debbie Stubsten of Fairview; and grandchildren Teresa Stubsten, Long Beach, CA; Corey Stubsten, Pocahontas, AR, Brian and Jessica Stubsten and children Ivan and Gracie, Edelstein, IL; Kay and Daniel Koehn, Fairview; and David Stubsten, Winter Garden, FL.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel, 221 N. Main, Fairview, OK at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 8, 2014 with a private internment at the Fairview Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation thru the Fairview Funeral Home inc.
