Graveside services for Delpha L. Sontag of Okeene, formerly of Longdale, will be Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Fairview Cemetery with Pastor J.L. Stafford officiating. There will be no public or family viewing. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Delph was born in Wynnewood on October 2, 1925 to O.D. Hopkins and Inice (Courtney) Hopkin and passed away in the Okeene Hospital July 25, 2019 at the young age of 93. Delpha’s mom married Arthur Stafford who raised her and she took his last name. She attended school to the 8th grade. Delpha met a young man by the name of Earnest Sontag and on December 20, 1940 the two were married in Woodward, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two sons and one daughter. After the 2 were married Earnest joined the United States Army in December of 1942 serving during WWII and was honorably discharged in October of 1943. Delpha stayed and after Earnest was discharged he returned home to her and worked in the oilfield. They moved as needed, living in Seiling, Chester, Woodward, Watonga, Longdale, Southard and various other communities. Delpha worked with him on the farm and worked as a cook to help support their family. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Alvin V. Sontag of Geary, Oklahoma, Eldon R. Sontag of Longdale, Oklahoma, one daughter Annis R. Sullivan also of Longdale, Oklahoma; two brothers Jerry L. Stafford and Gary L. Stafford; five sisters Coleta Bahn, Evelyn Buffington, Dora Gribble, Anna Belew, and Marilyn Wake; 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
