Memorial Services for Michael Earl Shafer, 61, of Ringwood, will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Michael Earl Shafer was born September 7, 1953 in Paducah, Kentucky and was adopted by Erldean and Virginia Alice (McKinnis) Shafer. He passed away November 5, 2014 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, OK.
Erldean and Alice made their home in Fairview, OK where they raised their two boys. Michael attended Fairview Schools and graduated with the Class of 1971. He received his Respiratory Therapy Certification from OU Medical School. While working, Michael earned his diploma for Registered Nurse from St. Anthony’s Nursing School. He worked in many departments throughout the hospital. He took great pride working for his mentors Dr. Mark Hopping and Dr. Douglas Brown. Michael was compassionate and extremely devoted to his patients. Michael met his future wife in the doctors’ office when she worked as a pharmaceutical rep. He married Jeannine Louise Freeman on May 7, 1990 in Kuai, Hawaii.
Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, his pets and traveling the world with his loving wife.
He is survived by his wife Jeannine of the home, cousin, Barry McKinnis, nephew Trent Shafer, niece, Renee Mullinex and his aunt, Elva McKinnis
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Mark Shafer and Doris McKinnis.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Integris Baptist ICU, OKC with the Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
