Kenneth Loyd Sholtess was born October 11, 1926 in Longdale, Oklahoma to Charlie L. and Anna (Wheiler) Sholtess and passed away May 8, 2016 at the Commons, Enid, Oklahoma. Kenneth was raised in the Longdale/Cedar Springs communities. He married Ruby Maxine Patterson in August 22, 1948, they made their home in Fairview. Maxine passed away February 2, 1988. Kenneth then married Frances M. Phillips in October 1988.

Kenneth was a butcher at Halstead Packing Plant for 27 years. He also worked at Halren Poultry Plant. He was a lineman for City of Fairview for many years before retiring. In his retirement years, he also worked for the Fairview Republican, taking papers to get printed then delivering them to surrounding towns. He loved to farm; he farmed several areas within the city limits of Fairview, raising wheat to "keep the weeds down". All of his working life he was a member of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department only retiring when he became disabled.

Kenneth and Maxine loved to go "Rock Hounding", traveling most of Western United States and from Mexico to Canada hunting rocks. Together they had a large collection from arrowhead to rubies and even opals. Kenneth also made bowls and pots out of Alabaster. A large collection is on display at the Alabaster Caverns. He along with Maxine, Doyl and Delyne made a map of Oklahoma, grinding the individual counties out of Honey Onyx. He also ground spheres out of over two dozen different gems, including onyx, tiger eye and alabaster.

Dad loved music his whole life. He enjoyed playing his mandolin and singing gospel and old time country music. Kenneth and Frances made several trips to Branson and Elk City where he was able to get on stage and play with professionals. He played music with several local bands, traveling to Enid and playing at the Methodist Commons Nursing Home, where he would spend his last days. Before going to the nursing home, Kenneth and Frances would go to Longdale on Sunday nights to play music and sing. Dad made hundreds of cassettes to share with others so they could enjoy the music at home.

He was member of the NW Fiddlers Association and Oklahoma Fiddlers Association. Kenneth played with local bands including Herb Nichols Band, Herman Wichert Band, and the Roland Inman Band. He was also a founding member of the Enid Gem and Mineral Society, holding several offices. He was a member of the Major County Historical Society and has several displays on loan at the museum, a member of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department and the Oklahoma Firefighters Association and a member of the RSVP program, putting in several hundred hours.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents and first wife Maxine, his brother Wayne Sholtess and brother-in-law, Harvey Classen.

He is survived by his wife Frances of Enid; son, Doyl Loyd Sholtess and wife Debra of Ringwood; daughter, Delyne Kleo McCafferty and husband Buss of Fairmont; grandchildren: Sherri LaDawn Sholtess Parks and husband Jason of Waukomis, Dustin Loyd Shotless and wife Lacey of Ringwood, Tracy Ann McCafferty Bradford and husband Scott of Garber, Michelle Leah McCafferty Featherstone and husband Randy of Oklahoma City; great grandchildren: Seth, Destiny, and Kaylee Parks, Hunter and Jacob Bradford, Eryn Featherstone, Kadence Larson; one sister, Ruthetta Classen of Oklahoma City; along with many nieces and nephews.
