Dorothy May (Wahl) Rusch was born on Feb. 6, 1923 to Otto and Lea Wahl on the family farm south of Fairview, and went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2018.
As a child, she rode her horse to Green Valley School. Later she attended and graduated from Fairview High School. At a young age she gave her life to Christ, was baptized, and became an active member of the Mennonite Brethren Church.
Dorothy met Glen Rusch during her freshman year and they became high school sweethearts. After graduating high school in 1940, she attended Enid Business College. She then went to work at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita where another suitor "begged her to take a diamond," but her heart belonged to Glen. They were married Sept. 13, 1942. Glen joined the Air Force spending his service in Miami and Palm Springs. Here Dorothy's lifelong love of Palm Springs began. While in Palm Springs their first daughter, Sandra Sue, was born October 3, 1945.
Glen and Dorothy returned to Fairview and ran a service station. They built their first home behind the business for $2000 out of used lumber from a family friend's barn. They became Massey Ferguson dealers, which they continued for 42 years. Glen was an "exceptional salesman." Dorothy was the bookkeeper, receptionist, parts girl, janitor and daily fresh donut maker. All while cooking three meals a day at home. Cathy Lou was born on April 1, 1947, just 18 months after Sandy.
After retirement, Dorothy and Glen loved spending time in their motor home. Their winters were spent in Dorothy's beloved Palm Springs, CA. They also enjoyed taking all four grandchildren on summer trips.
In 2005, they moved to Colorado to be near their daughter Cathy. Glen passed away in 2008, and Dorothy moved to the Fairview Fellowship Home in 2017.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Cathy Corzine and husband, Tom of Fairview; four grandchildren Chad Burris and wife, Julie of Santa Fe, NM; James Fuzzell of Fairview, OK; Ragen Pepper and husband, Justin of Monte Vista, CO; and Drew Burris and wife, Dena of Ponca City, OK; six great-grandchildren Xan Fuzzell; Rusch, Wesley and Bennett Pepper; and Addison and Alyssa Burris.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glen and daughter Sandy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Fellowship Home or the OMRF-Breast Cancer with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian.
