Edward E. Ratzlaff, 90, died Monday morning, September 3, 1984, in a Fairview hospital. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday in the Fairview Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Foster officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home.
Ratzlaff was born March 29, 1894, in Fairview to Andrew and Julia (Hanky) Ratzlaff. He was the first child born in Fairview after the 1889 land run.
He enlisted in World War I and afterward remained in Germany for a year, serving as an interpreter for US forces there.
Ratzlaff was married August 31, 1922 to Gladys McKee, in Fairview.
As a security guard for the US government in Washington DC, Ratzlaff received a certificate of merit before his retirement in 1959. He had worked in that job for 17 years.
He married Jeanetta Thompson February 15, 1960 in Washington, DC, and the couple lived in Tulsa, finally moving to Claremore. After his wife's death, Ratzlaff moved back to Fairview.
Ratzlaff is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, five of which live in the Fairview area. They are: Alice Heffel, Mary McMillan, Leon and George Keck, and Marion Ratzlaff.
Memorials may be made to the Fairview Fellowship Home. The funeral home will be the custodian.
