Graveside Services for Doris Fae McKinnis, 94, of Fairview will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Oklahoma. Kris Ewbank will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Doris Fae McKinnis was born on July 25, 1919 on the family farm southwest of Fairview, Oklahoma to Roy and Maude (McKee) Shafer and passed away January 17, 2014 in Ringwood, Oklahoma. Doris grew up with her two brothers, Marrall and Erldean and attended Cedar Springs Rural School through the eighth grade. Doris went to Fairview High School for two years then finished high school at Longdale High School graduating in 1937.

Doris received her nurses training at General Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing certificate and used her training in doctors’ offices in Oklahoma and Texas. She worked as Dr. Boughan’s nurse in Fairview for five years.

In 1961 she married Harold McKinnis, the brother of Erldean’s wife, Alice. Harold and Doris added to their family two sons, Clarence (CA) Pettit and Jerry McKinnis. They made their home in California where Doris worked in an allergy clinic in Los Angeles for twenty years. During that time, Doris was active in their church and in a ladies service club. When Harold retired they moved to Desert Shores, California. They enjoyed traveling and took their camper many places up and down the West Coast. Many times they would meet up with Erldean and Alice, making fond memories along the way. Harold passed away in 1998. Erldean and Alice finally convinced Doris to move home to Fairview in 2001 so they could look after her. Doris was known for caring for others and considered it a blessing that she had the opportunity to care for her mother, both brothers, sister in law and her son CA

She is survived by her nephew Michael and Jeanine Shafer of Ringwood, OK and a great nephew and great niece.

Doris is preceded by her husbands, two brothers, one son, Clarence, sister in law, Alice and nephew, Mark Shafer.
