She started working at the Woodward Hospital in 1964 and continued working there until she took a short break for the birth of Sabrina Suzette on September 4, 1974. Sabrina was born during the noon hour after Evelyn worked the previous day until 6:00 pm. Evelyn continued working at the Woodward Hospital until June of 1978 when Evelyn and Kieth moved to Fairview after Kieth was promoted to Postmaster at Fairview, OK.
While she worked at the Woodward Memorial Hospital, her mentor was Della Anthem. Evelyn achieved her Dietary Manager Certification and was active in the Hospital Institutional Educational Food Service Society (HIEFSS) serving as President and later as Secretary / Treasurer. Evelyn has worked in Food Service and Dietary Departments since 1959 or 52+ years in every capacity from dishwasher to cook to Dietary Manager. Fonda, an Integris Hospital "Team-leader", stated that Evelyn has too much training, experience, and knowledge to not be utilized, so she was placed in charge of the Meadowlike Hospital Kitchen. Evelyn planned on retiring and even applied to receive her Social Security Check upon leaving Meadowlake Hospital. However, she was persuaded to work at the Fairview Hospital for several years before finally retiring.
