Fairview Cemetery


The funeral for Irene Howerton, 72, of Fairview, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church of Fairview. The Revs. Brenton Haworth and Travis Howerton will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc., Fairview. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Cleveland, Ga., to Elmer and Ida Nichols Nix and died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, in Fairview.

She lived in Cleveland until she was 13, when she moved to Plant City, Florida. She attended school there for two years, then moved to Waverly, Colo. She graduated from Waverly High School. Shortly after graduation she moved to Fairview. She worked at Wheat’s Cafe and Cornelsen Hotel Coffee Shop. She married Woodrow Walter Howerton Feb. 8, 1952, in Fairview. She worked at Hallren’s Poultry, Cornelsen’s Motor Company and Howard Way Chevrolet. She worked for the city of Fairview in the city clerk’s office for 30 years. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge and Fairview Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

Surviving are three sons, Don Howerton of Oklahoma City, Scott Howerton of Cleo Springs and Rocky Howerton of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Marilyn Waters of Rocky and Melody Briggs and Misty Cooper, both of Fairview; one brother, Joe Nix of Oregon; two sisters, Ruth Allison of Georgia and Jeanette Nix of Colorado; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one great-grandchild and nine brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Fairview Regional Medical Center staff.
