Graveside Services for Junior Henry “Dude” Howerton, 90, of Fairview will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Oklahoma. The Reverend David Mendenhall will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Junior Henry“Dude” Howerton was born South of Fairview, Oklahoma, December 8, 1924 to Henry Thomas and Ida Bell (Carter) Howerton and passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his home in Fairview.
Dude was raised in the Longdale and Fairview communities. He enlisted in the Navy and served his country in WWII serving in the South Pacific and receiving an honorable discharge. On March 8, 1947, he married his sweetheart, Gretta Stiles and they celebrated 68 years of marriage. After his return home from the Navy, Dude went to work in the oilfield for several years. In 1959 they moved to Hamilton, Texas and he worked as a supervisor for a construction company. Later he took a job with the Texas Department of Transportation where he eventually retired.
Dude was a “one of a kind” guy who worked well with others but was never shy about stating his opinions. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Fairview and his faith in Christ was a very important part of his life. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and Hubert, four sisters; Ruby Hastings, Mildred Kelly, Elsie Peck and Dorthy Morgan.
Survivors include his wife, Gretta, of the home, son, Rick and Christy Howerton , of Fairfield, Texas, one grandson, Eric and wife Jennifer, one granddaughter, Angelina Howerton, two great-grandsons; Alexander and Lucas, one great-granddaughter Emma, and two sisters; Thelma Parkins and Laverna Howerton.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Fairview 1st Baptist Church or OMRF-Cancer division with the Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodians of the funds.

Graveside Services for Gretta Vonne Howerton, 92, of Fairfield, Texas, formerly of Fairview will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Oklahoma. Reverend David Mendenhall will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Gretta Vonne Howerton was born in Cheyenne Valley, Oklahoma, on December 15, 1928 to Harold and Mae (Harmon) Stiles and passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Freestone Medical Center, in Fairfield, Texas close to her son.
Gretta was from a large family of nine children. She was raised in the Cheyenne Valley and Fairview communities and graduated from Cheyenne Valley High School. After she graduated from high school, she and her sister Hazel, got an apartment in Fairview and moved to town. Gretta met a young man that had just returned home for WWII by the name of Junior Henry “Dude” Howerton. On March 8, 1947, they were married and started their life together. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before Dude died in 2015. In 1948 the couple was blessed with their only son Rick. Dude worked in the oil field and they moved around with his work. In 1959 they moved to Hamilton, Texas and Dude worked as a supervisor for a construction company. Later he took a job with the Texas Department of Transportation where he eventually retired.
Gretta’s primary job was house wife and mother, raising their son Rick. However, She also was a beautician and ran a beauty salon in her home. Gretta and Dude spent a lot of their free time playing cards and square dancing. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Fairview and her faith in Christ was a very important part of her life. She was a sweet and graceful lady that was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dude, four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her son, Rick and Christy Howerton, of Fairfield, Texas, one grandson, Eric and wife Jennifer, one granddaughter, Angelina and husband Dylan Smith, three great-grandsons; Alexander, Lucas and Judah, one great-granddaughter Emma, two sisters; Dorothy Estes and Lois Johnson and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
