ENID — Funeral for Nolen Harsh, 71, of Enid, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Evangel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Lester L. Lowry officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery , Fairview, Okla., under the kind guidance of the Stittsworth Funeral Service. Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Nolen was born July 15, 1939, in Longdale, Okla., the son of Ralph and Ianza Jones Harsh and died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, in Fairview.
He was educated in Enid, graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1957. Nolen then attended Oklahoma State University. He received his master in education degree. Nolen was a school teacher at Longfellow Junior High and Enid High School, where he was awarded Teacher of the Year before his retirement. After retirement, he worked for Waller Junior High for two years. He then was a professor of astronomy and physics at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva.
Nolen attended Evangel Assembly of God Church and was a Sunday school teacher for the sanctuary class. He was a member of OEA, Poetry Society in Enid, wrote and sold books to China. Nolen loved reading and writing.
He is survived by his sister, Verta and her husband Eddie Miles of Chester ; two nieces, Kathy Dunham of Van Alstein, Texas, and Carolyn Renegar of Levelland, Texas; one nephew, Mark Miles of Chester ; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; and a very special friend, Mary Adams.
Nolen was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Iola Harsh.
Memorials may be made in Nolen's memory to Enid Public School Foundation with Stittsworth Funeral Service serving as custodian of the fund.
