Mary Arlene (Crissup) HOWERTON

Fairview Cemetery

April 17, 1927 - July 19, 2011

Graveside service for Mary Arlene Howerton will be 10:00am Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Fairview Cemetery. Services are through Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Viewing will be 12-10pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Arlene was born April 17, 1927 in Fairview to James Harrell and Ruby Lenora (Crissup) Patterson and passed away July 19, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 84. She married Everett Howerton in 1959. Often seen dressed smartly in red with a big welcoming smile; we all enjoyed her sense of humor and colorful storytelling, not to mention, the experience of riding in the car with her was unforgettable.

What a wonderful cook she was; from the cherry cheesecake to fresh baked bread and savory baked ham. We can't forget her favorite things to eat, fried potatoes or taco bell tacos. Arlene was well known as a great host and was always taking her homemade rolls or cake to her neighbors and friends to enjoy. When she wasn't cooking, Arlene was sewing. Many homes are adorned with her clown dolls, pouty dolls, and quilts - all stitched with love.

Survived by her daughter, Darla June Wormington Wahl and husband, Mark of Phoenix and many other family and friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everette; son, Robert Eugene "Buddy" Wormington; brothers, Elvin and Everett Patterson and sisters, Maxine Sholtess; Georgia Miracle and Elzada Summerville.

To her great nieces and nephews, Aunt Arlene will be remembered for her purple cow milkshakes, shuffleboard and the awesome tree house adventures with herself and Uncle Everett in the Arizona sunshine. Arlene had two children and was known to treat her nieces and nephews as if they were her own, as well.
