Harold was born October 30, 1930 to Asa Lee and Florene (Hix) Hoehn on the family farm in Camden County, Missouri and on Monday, May 1, 2017 the angels came, gathered him up, and took him home.
Harold grew up on the family farm and after high school, his dad became ill, could no longer take care of the farm, and they moved to Dodge City on their way to Arizona. His dad could travel no farther and was hospitalized for several months. Dodge City became their new home. Harold went to seminary school to become a minister and completed school after 3 years. Harold joined the United States Army on 1 June 1957. After completing basic training he was stationed at Fort Chaffee Arkansas and then Fort Gordon Georgia for specialist training. Harold was then assigned to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska for the remainder of his enlistment, working as the Supply Sergeant for his unit. One thing he always remembered and talked about over the years was the fact that he was there when Alaska became our 49th state. After his Honorable Discharge on May 20, 1959, Harold returned to Dodge City, Kansas. Harold went to work at the Pepsi Cola Bottling plant in Dodge City. He soon met Deloris Fay Crego at the Duckwalls Store, where she worked with his mother, and on November 12, 1959 they were married. The couple was soon blessed with their first son Vernon in June of 1960. Two short years later they were again blessed with their second son Ryan in June of 1962.
Harold was a hardworking man who always saw the grass greener on the other side of the fence. This caused the family to move around. In 1965 they moved to Elkhart, Kansas and he went to work for a farmer named Bill Tucker. While the boys were in school they lived in or just south of Elkhart. Harold worked as a farmer, worked in a hardware store called Bultman, and for a short time was the owner and operator of the Elkhart Café. In 1979, after both of the boys were out of school, Harold and Deloris moved to Seiling, Oklahoma and he worked for John Deere in the parts department. In 1980 they returned to Elkhart for a short time and then moved to Fairview, Oklahoma where he worked as a salesman for Howard Way Chevrolet. In the spring of 1983 they moved to Mesa, Arizona where he worked for two different hardware stores over the next 20 years. In the late fall of 2002, with Deloris's heath declining, they returned to Fairview to be closer to their sons. He lived the remainder of his years in Fairview. Even though he was retired by this time, he still stayed busy working for Jensen's and MAGB as a driver until his health and the onset of Alzheimer's forced him to quit working.
Harold was a very hard working man that could never sit still. He loved to watch sports and was a big OSU fan. He collected coffee mugs for many years as well as hats and NFR belt buckles. He never met a stranger and loved to talk your leg off. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and was the president of their Men's Breakfast Club. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be truly missed by those who knew him.
Harold is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Deloris Hoehn of Fairview, two sons, Vernon and Chanin Hoehn of Fairview, Ryan and Karla Hoehn of Hartley, Texas, three grandchildren, Jerod and Tara Hoehn of Grandview, Texas, Tawny and Nick Perley of Muscatine Iowa, and Chancy Hoehn of Fairview, two great granddaughters, Haley Rogers of Texas, and Ember Perley of Iowa and three more great grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Betty Hoehn and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parent and his brother Robert L. Hoehn.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to OMRF Alzheimer's Division.
