Fairview Cemetery


Mary Gray was born on July 9th, 1950 to Wilbur Harold (Pete) Gettys and Irene Edith Gettys in Humboldt, Nebraska. She was joined in their happy family by her twin brothers, John Charles and Jeffery Thomas. She spent her childhood years in Bartlesville, Oklahoma graduating from Sooner High in 1968. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1972 with a degree in elementary education, and later with a masters in curriculum and instruction. She was married to Donald Alan Stephens on May 20, 1972 and they lived in Colorado. They had one son, Brian Douglas, in 1975. Mary worked as a teacher from 1972 until her retirement in 2012. She taught in Platteville, Colorado, Oak Grove Elementary near Cushing, Oklahoma and Seiling Public Schools in Seiling, Oklahoma. Teaching was her passion and brought her joy. She married Gary Gene Gray on November 21st, 1998. She and Gary lived a happy life together for a wonderful 22 years until his death in 2021.

She is survived by her brother Jeff Gettys and wife Marcy, niece Kristin Gettys, nephew Peter Gettys, son Brian Stephens and wife Destiny, step daughter Candace Simmons and husband, David. Five grandchildren Brianna Stephens, Ryne Stephens, Chloe Hughes, Emma Simmons and Prairie Rose Simmons. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, loved to read, sing and taking care of her family. She left this life on June 2nd, 2023 to be with Jesus.

Celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Adair officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview, OK. Memorials can be sent to the Central Christian Church of Fairview, OK and the Christian Broadcasting Network with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 15, Fairview, OK 73737.
