Funeral Services for Brandon Wayne Clyden, age 40, will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 27, at the Nazarene Church in Watonga, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Fairview, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.
Brandon Wayne Clyden was born September 6, 1977 in Watonga ,Oklahoma to Gary and Opal (Denny) Clyden. He passed away peacefully at his home in Fairview, Oklahoma on November 19, 2017, at the age of 40, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Brandon attended Watonga Schools and was a member of the Watonga High School football team winning back to back State Class 2-A football championships in 1993 and 1994. He graduated with the Class of 1996. Brandon was an avid sports fan. He especially loved his Chicago Cubs baseball team and his favorite college football team, the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
After graduation, Brandon went on to serve his country. He joined the U.S. Navy where he served 4 years aboard the now retired Aircraft Carrier, C V-64 USS Constellation. His enlistment allowed him to visit many countries and ports around the world. Brandon was part of the crew that launched aircraft from the decks of the Aircraft Carrier USS Constellation. When his 4 year commitment to the Navy was completed, Brandon then joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard which allowed him to attend Southwestern State University in Weatherford for a short time. When his commitment with the Guard was completed Brandon rejoined the US Navy Reserve, and was assigned to the Naval Reserve unit located at Tinker Airforce Base in Oklahoma City. During his commitment with the Navy Reserve, Brandon was activated twice, serving a year tour of duty during the Iraq war and later, a year tour of duty during the Afghanistan war. Brandon was an avid fan of the military and gave all he could give to those services and to his country.
Brandon was employed with the Corrections Corporation of America, CCA Diamondback Correctional Facility in Watonga until its closing in 2010. While so employed, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant and became the facilities K-9 handler with his K-9 partner, a Golden Retriever named Brandy, with whom he had grown a strong bond with. While also employed at the facility he met his future wife Melissa Morgan and her son, later his loving step son, Travis Morgan both of Fairview. Brandon and Melissa were married July 30, 2005 and born of the marriage was their loving daughter Tawny Ann Clyden, better known to him and his family as "Tac-Tac." Brandon resided, with his family in Fairview, until his passing.
After the closing of the Diamondback facility in 2010, Brandon then became employed with the State of Oklahoma's Department of Corrections serving as a Correctional Officer at the Crabtree Correctional facility in Helena, Oklahoma. He was employed by the District 4 of the State of Oklahoma as Victim Witness Coordinator for the District Attorney’s office, until the disease rendered him unable to function at that capacity.
Brandon was preceded in death by his loving stepson Travis Morgan, his father-in-law, Jerry Mac Kahn, his grandfathers; George Denny, Herbert Clyden and Lloyd Estep and his grandmother Jeanie Estep.
Brandon is survived by his wife Melissa and daughter Tawny Ann Clyden of the home, parents, Gary and Opal Clyden of Fay, OK, brother and sister-in-law Gary Clyden Jr., wife Sarah and their family of Woodward, OK, grandmothers; Donna Woodruff of Watonga, OK and Judith Clyden of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, in-laws, numerous other family members, friends and acquaintances, whose paths he crossed during his life time.
