Vernon Lee Adams, 79 year old, Moore, Oklahoma resident, formerly of Leedey, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Vernon was born on October 12, 1935 in Moorewood, Oklahoma to Clarence and Leona (Addington) Adams. He grew up in Moorewood and attended Leedey schools, graduating with the class of 1954. He furthered his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. In 1958 he married the love of his life Gay “Gwendolyn” Morris at the First Baptist Church in Fairview. The couple then made their home Bethany, Oklahoma City, and Moore where they spent the rest of their lives together. Vernon worked for the United States Postal Service as a Special Delivery Carrier. He was also a member of the National Letter Carrier Association and the Antioch Christian Church in Oklahoma City. In his spare time Vernon enjoyed fishing and farming, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, infant child, sister Quanah Cummins and husband Leon, and two sisters-in-law Geraldine Adams and Helen Morris.
Left to carry on his legacy are his wife of 57 years, Gwen of the home; two sons Keith Lorraine Adams of Yukon, Curtis Lee Adams of Dallas, Texas; brother Larry Adams and wife Rita of Edmond; caregiver Daniel Collett of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Leedey with Pastor Chuck Gilbert, Mr. Steve Riggs, and Dr. Curtis Adams presiding. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at the Fairview, Oklahoma Cemetery. Gwen and the family of Vernon Lee Adams have entrusted his care, services, and burial to Scott Ferrell and the caring staff of Shaw Funeral Home-Leedey.
Memorials may be made in Vernon's honor to the OMRF Cancer Research.
