Martha Adeline COTTOM

Concord Cemetery

COTTOM, Martha Adeline, 71, was born Feb. 13, 1939 in Enid, OK and joined her Heavenly Father on July 20, 2010.

She was the daughter of Floyd & Clara Mae Cottom and grew up with her brother, Marvin, on the farm near Meno, OK that her grandfather homesteaded in the Cherokee Strip Land Run. Martha graduated from Ames High School in 1957 and went on to nursing school at Enid General Hospital, graduating in 1959. Her career as a Registered Nurse with Integris Baptist Hospital spanned 40 years until her retirement in 2003. She was the ultimate nurse; not only to her patients, but always willing to take care of her family and served as Church Camp Nurse on many occasions. Martha was a gentle woman and loved her family, church family and friends unconditionally. She was a member of the Shartel Church of God and loved the activities of the Joyaires. Martha enjoyed playing games, crocheting, spending time at the farm and attending all types of sporting events, especially those of her nieces and nephews. Martha was a wonderful daughter, loving sister and the best Aunt ever!

Martha is survived by her brother, Marvin & his wife, Betty, and an uncle, Winters Cochran.

Affectionately known as “Aunt Mar” to her nieces & nephews, Cindy & Jon Borden, Darren & Polly Cottom, and Steve & Heather Cottom. Her great nephew and nieces were her pride and joy: Kyle Borden, Jandolyn & Blake Overton, Mackenzie Borden, Cody & Julia Cottom and Savannah & Summer Cottom. She loved the little ones the best; her great-great nephews and niece, Kaden & Blaze Overton and Kylie Borden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister.

Memorials may be made to Shartel Church of God Building Fund, 11600 S. Western Ave, OKC, OK 73170.

Viewing will be at Vondel Smith Mortuary, S. Western Ave, from 4-8 PM Thursday with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM. Services to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 AM Friday, July 23, 2010 at the South Colonial Chapel with committal services to follow at 3:00 PM at the Concord Cem. in Meno, OK.
