Eunice Isaak was born November 20, 1916 on the family farm northwest of Fairview, Oklahoma to Aaron and Mary Penner and passed away March 31, 2007 at the Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview, Oklahoma. Eunice was one of 13 brothers and sisters in the family, three died before the age of five. She attended Valley Center country school, northwest of Fairview. After graduating she stayed home and worked on the family farm until adulthood. In her 20’s she moved to Fairview and worked for the T. G. & Y. Store, where she became the assistant manager. At this time, she met her husband Clarence Isaak. They were married Christmas day 1941. They made their home on a farm one mile north and one mile west of Fairview. There were two boys born to this marriage, Doyle and Merle. Clarence had a daughter, Clarice Jeanene, whose mother died when Clarice was four. Eunice loved Clarice and raised her as her own daughter. Eunice attended the Church of God where her father and grandfather were ministers. When the church moved into Fairview in the late 1950’s she helped care for the church and attended faithfully. She loved singing hymns and enjoyed the fellowship with family and friends. During this time she helped care for her elderly parents until the passed away in the 1960’s.
Eunice enjoyed farming, cooking, sewing and gardening. She also sold Lifetime Cookware and sold baked goods. Many people will remember her fresh baked whole wheat bread, pepper nuts, and “Blarney Stone” cookies. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her children’s clothes and the dresses for Clarice Jeanene’s wedding. She was a devoted wife and mother. Eunice supported her husband, Clarence, in farming, ranching and interior decorating. There was always a full meal on the table or in the fields for the family, friends, and hired help. Eunice always said she and Clarence never had cross words or an argument in their 24 years of marriage. After Clarence died in 1965, Eunice continued to run the farm and support her children in college. In the early 1970’s, she left the farm and moved into Fairview. She then became the caretaker for U.I. Smith and his wife for about 10 years until they passed away.
Eunice retired at the age of 71. That same year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery and treatment she became a cancer survivor. Eunice then cared for her brothers, Henry and John, until they passed away. At this time she could be seen at the Herb and Spice Shop in Fairview, visiting with friends and helping watch the store. Eunice was a member of the Betterment Club, P.T.A., O.S.U. Extension Club, Farm Bureau and was a volunteer for R.S.V.P. Eunice had a keen sense of humor and loved people. She would get so “tickled” over life’s situations, she laughed until it hurt. She could always cheer people up and find some joy in the trials of life. Eunice loved to collect old family heirlooms. This hobby provided many hours of conversation with family and friends. Her trip to Germany in 1974 to visit in-laws was part of her love of family history.
Eunice will be missed by her children, Clarice Jeanene Penner and spouse Ruben of Jefferson, Texas; son Doyle Isaak and wife Jeanen of Bowling Green, Kentucky, son Merle Isaak and wife Linda of Enid, Oklahoma; her living siblings, Lois Peters of Enid and Dan Penner of Medora, Kansas; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
