ENID — Jeneva Leora, 86, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at her home in Chester surrounded by her family. Jeneva was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Chester to Violet (Ball) and Cecil Horner.
She attended Garden Vale School and graduated from Seiling High School in 1942.
She married Sgt. James Helterbrake Nov. 28, 1942, in Lawton, Okla., where she worked in a civil service position. Unto this union, six children were born.
Jeneva owned and operated Hildy's Café in Chester, then worked in the medical field as a clinic receptionist and later as a nursing home administrator in Helena, Cherokee, Waynoka and Seiling. She attended LPN school in Woodward and worked several years at Seiling Nursing Center. She was a charter member of Seiling Quilt Guild and taught her daughters, daughters-in-law, granddaughters and great-granddaughters to quilt. Jeneva was very talented doing ceramics and china painting. She enjoyed reading and watching the news.
She is survived by her children, Helen Hickman and husband Henry of Vici, James Helterbrake and wife Valerie of Enid, Connie Price and husband Joe of Chester, Myna Pendleton and husband Bruce of Enid, Jeffery Helterbrake and wife Ann of Chester and Paula Dunn of Hinton; sister, Ramona Leachman of Seiling; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren representing five generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Russell Horner.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, in Chester Cemetery Pavilion with her grandson, Bryan Bishop, officiating.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Area Medical Foundation or Chester Historical Society for kitchen equipment. The Redinger Funeral Home-Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663 will serve as custodian of the funds.
