Funeral services for Ruby Ruth Smith, 96, formerly of Fairview, will be 10:30 am, Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Fairview, OK. Ministers Sam Shirk, Charles Schmidt, and Eldon Wenger will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Ruby Wenger Smith was born November 19, 1922 to Conrad and Anna Becker Wenger at Newton, Kansas. She peacefully passed away on July 3, 2019 at Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas. She reached the age of 96 years, 7 months.
Mother spent her childhood years on her parent’s farm at Hesston, Kansas. She received her education at French Country School. At the age of 16 she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized by Minister Frank Wenger into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. On September 2, 1945 she married Victor Smith. They began their home on one of her father’s farms. After the birth of their first child they moved to Fairview, OK where four more children joined the family and where mother spent her time raising her family, gardening, and working on the family farm. After many years of farm work Dad and Mom semi-retired and traveled across the U.S. and into Canada. Mom spent many hours in the RV doing handwork, writing letters and reading her Bible while Dad fished. Mom and Dad shared 57 years of married life. They purchased a home in Fairview and moved off the farm. In 2002 Dad passed away. After 12 years of being by herself Mother found a new home in Montezuma, Kansas. The wonderful people at Bethel Home became her new family.
Those left to cherish her memories are: two daughters; Connie and Robert Nightengale and Carol and Curtis Koehn of Copeland, Kansas, two sons; Roger and Winona Smith and Kevin and Judy Smith of Fairview, Oklahoma, one daughter-in-law, Camilla Smith of Mayfield, Kansas, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, also 1 sister, Della Schmidt, 3 sisters-in-law; Naomi Wenger, Virginia Wenger and Velma Smith and 1 brother-in-law, Herman Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Victor Lynn and one granddaughter, Amy Smith, six brothers and two sisters.
