Leonard H. KOEHN

Cedar Cemetery

Funeral services for Leonard Harley Koehn, 85, of Ringwood, will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Fairview. Rev. Randy Levings will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Cemetery. Arrangements are Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Leonard Harley Koehn was born to Nathaniel and Linda Kehn Koehn on June 27, 1930 at the family farm south of Fairview, Oklahoma. He passed away in his sleep at the Fairview Fellowship Home on August 11, 2015, reaching the age of 85 years.

He was the 5th of 10 children, so his childhood years were full of work and fun. He attended Banner School and grew up to become a strong young man with good work ethics. In his early twenties, he got acquainted with Joy Belle Penner while cutting wheat in Kansas. They were married at Enid, Oklahoma on July 8th, 1952. The first few years were spent at Fairview, and later moved to the Ringwood area where they spent the remainder of their married life. Their home was blessed with a son Leon and a daughter Kara.

Leonard loved farm life, working for others the first few years of their marriage, and later on spent 47 years with his own dairy. After we quit the dairy, Dad had a very nice cattle herd he was very proud of. He always had a special dog, but especially we remember a stray dog named Buster that turned into a fantastic cow dog that stayed for nearly twenty years. He enjoyed working on old tractors, and was very mechanically minded. He loved to fish, and spent many evenings with his family at the local ponds, making precious memories of dad and grandpa that we cherish today. Mom is a wonderful cook, and Dad enjoyed her wonderful treats. He also enjoyed listening to music, both gospel and country.

Family was important to Leonard, and we as a family were very close. We spent countless hours together, and will miss his laughter, his smile, and his love. Leonard had a special bond with his grandsons. He spent many hour on tractor with them and teaching them mechanics. Eric was born on his 50th birthday and together they celebrated many birthdays. The last few months of his life were spent in the hospital and rest home. With heavy hearts, we accept his passing, realizing his quality of life was diminishing.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joy Belle; son Leon and wife Sherry of Ringwood; daughter Kara and husband Dennis Harrell of Tulsa; two grandsons, Ryan Koehn and Eric Koehn and his wife Denae’; 3 great-grandchildren, Eli Harley, Noah Edward, and Nathanial Jacob Koehn all of Ringwood. He also leaves three brothers; Lawrence Koehn, Claude and wife Elsie Koehn, and Martin and wife June Koehn of Ringwood, one sister; Rosetta and husband Milford Schmidt of Livingston, CA; two sister-in-laws, Juanita Koehn of Okeene and Mary Helen Koehn of Tulsa, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, Harold, Mark, and Mike and one sister, Wilma.

Memorial donations can be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation-Heart or Cancer Division with the funeral home acting as custodian.

January 11, 1933 - April 17, 2020

Graveside services for Joy Belle Koehn, 87, of Ringwood, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2020 in the Cedar Cemetery. Due to the current restrictions, only the immediate family will be present. A memorial service will be held after this crisis is over. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the funeral home from 1 to 6 pm. Everyone is welcomed, however, we will limit the number of people to 10 at a time and observe social distances.

Joy Belle (Penner) Koehn left this earth for her eternal home in Heaven on April 17, 2020 at the Fairview Hospital. Joy was born on January 11, 1933 in Isabella, OK to Eli and Edna (Becker) Penner. The oldest of four children Joy lived all her childhood in Isabella just up the hill from the school.

She attended grade school in Isabella, OK and graduated in 1951 from Fairview, OK where she attended high school. After graduation she moved to Enid, OK where she attended business collage and later worked for Edward Montgomery in his law office.

On July 19, 1952 Joy married the love of her life, Leonard Koehn, at the Methodist church in Enid, OK Leonard would tell the story that it cost seven dollars and that was all the cash he had. The first years of their marriage they worked in various places and in 1959 they moved to Ringwood where they would spend the rest of their lives. Joy and Leonard were blessed with two children, Leon born in 1953 and Kara Lee born in 1956. Leonard and Joy were happily married 63 years until Leonard's passing in August of 2015.

Before her health began to fail Joy had many hobbies. A hobby Joy inherited from her mom was quilting. She was taught by her mother and her friends in a quilting group that continued for many years and brought forth many beautiful quilts. Joy was a very good bowler and had many stories to tell involving the lifetime friends she made while bowling on the leagues. She was an excellent pie baker and would bake pies and bring them to the Engine Shows her family was participating in. She would not bring just one pie she brought three or four pies all different flavors. When her family's show friends found out Joy was bringing pies they were sure to visit just at the right time to have a piece. Joy was also an avid gardener and loved growing flowers of all kinds. Crocheting was also another of Joy's talents. She could crochet Afghans, dish cloths and everything in between but we do not think anyone could beat her at collecting recipes and cook books. Joy absolutely loved cookbooks! She was especially enthusiastic while researching the history of the Penner and Koehn Families.

Joy's grandkids, Ryan and Eric were very special to her and when her great grandkids came along, Twins Eli, named after Joy's dad, Noah and Nathaniel, whom she called little squirt, she was one very proud great- grandma.

Because they were so close the family began eating Sunday breakfast at Leon and Sherry's home. Sherry would cook the bacon and Joy would bake French toast or pancakes or any new recipe she could find. Sometimes she would spend the whole week looking thru recipes for just the right one to fix for Sunday breakfast. Joy was loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Left to morn Joy's passing are sister, Velda Truitt, Fairview, OK, sister in-law's Donna Penner, Dodge City, KS., Juanita Koehn, Okeene OK., Elsie Koehn, Ringwood, OK., and Rosetta Schmidt, Livingston, CA., Mary Helen Koehn, Tulsa, OK., daughter Kara Harrell and husband Dennis, Tulsa OK., daughter in-law Sherry Koehn, Ringwood, OK., grandsons Ryan, Eric and his wife Denae', great grand-sons Eli, Noah, and Nathaniel all of Ringwood, OK.. Joys loved her beloved babies, dog KOKO, felines Snickers, Sassy, Cookie and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Edna, husband Leonard, brother Kenny, sister Joann and son Leon.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Joy’s name can be made to the Fairview Alumni in care of Fairview Funeral Home.
