Opal Irene Edingfield went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2024. She was born April 25, 1927 to Thomas and Golda (Gault) Whitacre. She grew up on the farm west of Putnam, Oklahoma and attended Putnam Schools.
She married Merland Edingfield on June 5, 1943. They were married for 49 years until he passed away in January of 1992. They spent the first couple of years in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Merland was stationed in the Army. They moved to the farm west of Fairview, Oklahoma where they raised their two daughters.
Opal loved the farm life and was a rancher right alongside her husband. They did custom harvesting for many years. She loved cooking for the young boys that worked for them. She was a very good seamstress and cook. She could take on any challenge she set her mind to and she was very talented. She loved her family; she was a wonderful mom to her two daughters. Her grandchildren lovingly called her “Nana”. She had a big smile and always enjoyed life whether it was playing with her grandkids, watching the cattle and birds, or fishing in the pond. She also loved her dog.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Seifried and husband Ron of Ringwood, OK, and Donna McFarlin and husband Tom of Piedmont, OK. Three grandchildren, Sharla Smith and husband Darin, Travis Seifried and wife Angie, and Matthew McGuire and wife Kortny. Great-grandchildren Jestin, Will and wife Alura, and Josie Gould, Braden and Baylor Seifried, and Bryson McGuire. Great-great-grandchildren Kinsley and Jay Dee. Also, two brothers J.C. Whitacre and wife Judy, and Lanny Whitacre and friend Elaine.
Preceding her in death were her husband Merland Edingfield, parents Thomas and Golda Whitacre, sister Dixie Jones and husband Edward, sister-in-law Marilyn Whitacre, and nephew Bob Jones.
