John Merl Wood
October 23, 1932 - December 23, 2017
Funeral service for John M. Wood, age 85 of Enid, is 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, in the Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Williams and Everett Ohls officiating. Burial follows in the Ames Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation is 5-6:00 p.m. today, December 26, 2017, at the funeral home.
John was born October 23, 1932, at Ames, OK, to John A. and Lorena Patton Wood, and passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Enid.
He grew up in Ames, graduating from Ames High School. John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the military police in Africa. He married Helen Randolph and they made their home in Enid. They had two sons, Darrel and Donnie. John worked at Franklin Motor Company for 27 years and later worked at Enid Glass Works, where he retired. On April 24, 1977, he married Opal Barnes in Calvary Baptist Church and they made their home in Enid. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. John enjoyed woodworking and working in yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Blaser, two brothers, Donald and John A. Wood. John is survived by his wife, Opal; two sons and their wives, Darrel and Amy Wood, Kingfisher, and Donnie and Dana Wood, Enid; three stepchildren, Janice Francis, Broken Arrow, Danny Barnes and wife, Melva, Sherman, TX, Pam Smart and husband, Ron, Enid; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
