The funeral service celebrating the life of Stanley L. Summers will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel, with William Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow at Ames Cemetery. A visitation with family will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the funeral home.

Stanley was born Feb. 4, 1935, on a farm North East of Ames to Bill and Juanita (Buford) Summers and passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Enid. Stanley attended grade school at Union Star Country School and graduated high school in Drummond, Okla. He married Jtonne Bowles July 1, 1955. The couple made Enid their home for four years before moving back to Ames. They owned and operated the Ames Texaco Station for 33 years. Stanley served two years on the Oklahoma Oil Petroleum Board. He was a charter member who helped establish the Ames Fire Department five years before it was sanctioned by the state. He then served 16 years as fire chief and another four years before the required retirement age. He was a member of the Commemorative Air Force since 1987. He was a WWII historian and co-owner of Bygone Aviation. Stanley loved camping and boating and was a world traveler.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Jtonne; three daughters, Kim McCoy and husband, Jim; Sonya Tyau; Karla Creason and husband, Ron; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Billy (infant) and Ted Summers, and daughter, Jo Dianne.

Memorials may be made to the Ames Fire Department, Ames Cemetery or Enid's Commemorative Air Force with the funeral home acting as custodian of the funds.
