Funeral service for Carolyn Sue McCoy will be Monday, September 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Ames Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with family present. Carolyn Sue Bowles McCoy was born May 17, 1938 in rural Ames, Oklahoma on the farm homesteaded by her grandfather to, Maggie Iona (Marteney) and Willie Lawrence (Bill) Bowles. She attended school at Ames and Medford, graduating as Valedictorian from Medford in 1956. She was a star basketball player as well as an academic standout. She attended Phillips University in Enid, graduating in 1960 with a B.S. in Education.
On July 30, 1960 she married high school sweetheart and best friend Donald Dean McCoy. They were married at the Medford Methodist Church by his grandfather Rev. C.H. Schuermann. They moved to Wichita, Kansas where Carolyn was employed as a physical education instructor at Wichita High School East. Carolyn retired after seven years to raise their family. She continued to volunteer at all the schools her children attended as well as work as a part time secretary at Buckner Elementary. In 1987 the family moved to Medford.
Carolyn belonged to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, serving as the Ad. Council Secretary many years, the UMW, holding offices at the local, district and state levels, Medford Busy Moms, Kansas Assoc. of Health, DAR, Election Board, and Delta Kappa Gamma, serving 17 years as treasurer.
Carolyn had many accomplishments and honors, but was most proud of the two great kids she helped raise.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lawrence (Bill) Bowles and Maggie Iona (Marteney).
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Don; daughter, Donna Chuang and her husband, Tom and children, Maggie and Thomas of Longmont, Colorado; son, Douglas McCoy and his wife, Kathy and children, Jacob and Joshua of Chandler, Oklahoma; brother, Roger Bowles and his children, Tracey, Randy, Terri and their families of Wichita, Kansas and other relatives and many great friends.
Memorials may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church for the UMCOR Disaster Relief through the funeral home.
