January 07, 1924 - August 21, 2018

A graveside service for Raymond Laubhan will be 1 p.m. September 1, 2018, at the Ames Cemetery.

Raymond Benjamin Laubhan was born January 7, 1924, in Ames, Oklahoma, to Conrad and Matilda Laubhan. He was the eighth child born into the family and all preceded him death.

He graduated from Ames High School. He was a WWII veteran and was drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served in the 346th Bomb Squadron in the 99th Bomb Group in the 15th Air Force in Foggia, Italy in 1944. He was a B-17 radio-gunner, flying 34 missions. He received the Air Medal with 3 Clusters. He served until the war ended in Europe and was on his way home when someone told him that a bomb the size of a walnut was dropped on Japan and that the war there was ended. He could hardly believe that because he knew he would be sent to fight there. It was a very good news because of that his fighting was over. He was discharged in August 1944.

He attended Enid Business College and was working for the Longbell Lumber Co. when he met Velma Lee Boston and married in 1949. They made their home in Enid where they were both employed. They have one daughter, Jacquie Elaine. In 1955, Raymond learned Morse code and went to work for the Frisco Railroad. He retired from the Burlington-Northern Railroad in 1983. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Velma Lee; his daughter, Jacquie Elaine Benthin and husband Glenn; granddaughter, Cherye Michelle Davis; great-grandsons Brandon Cole Davis and wife Brittany, Benjamin Conner Davis, Jonathan Cayden Davis; great-great granddaughter Jaina Nicole Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
