Mrs. Vernon was born December 10, 1927, at Simon, the daughter of
Con and Pearl Powell Nipp, and died April 22, 1999, in Mercy
Memorial Health Center, Ardmore, at the age of 71.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Vernon of the home; four sons and
daughters-in-law, David Vernon and Betty Jane DeFoor, Dale and Judy
Vernon, Dennis and Kathryn Vernon and Dean and Jeanne Vernon, all of
Wilson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Clifford King and
Debbie and James Hayes of Wilson, Danell and Danny Bray of Healdton, and
Denise and Jim Menke of Ardmore; seven brothers, Charles Nipp of Lyons,
NE; Clyde Nipp and Curtiss Nipp of the Simon Community; Conver Nipp,
Gene Nipp and Donald Nipp of Wilson; and John Nipp of Overbrook; seven
sisters, Parlee Russell and Oleta Self of Leon, Elnora Phillips and
Carolyn Westmoreland of Ardmore, Lorene Montgomery of Marietta, Nadine
Goode of Wilson, and Linda Williams of Rubottom; 26 grandchildren and 20
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Vernon was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorlene Nipp
in 1936; and a brother, Claude Nipp in 1990.
Services were directed by Kennedy Funeral Home with
interment in the Vernon Family Cemetery at Simon.
Pallbearers were sons, David Vernon, Dale Vernon, Dennis Vernon and
Dean Vernon; and nephews, Keith Phillips and Bill Russell. Honorary bearers were grandsons and sons-in-law.
