with Reverend Jim Duck and Jackie Hartman officiating. Interment with
military honors followed at the Simon Cemetery.
John was born to the late Conver William "Conn" and Jessie "Pearl"
Powell Nipp on March 13, 1948 at Simon. He went to his heavenly home on
Thursday evening February 3, 2022 at his residence in Overbrook.
John was raised as one of 17 children living at Simon. He initially
attended his early years of school at Meadowbrook and then Turner,
graduating from Turner High School in 1966. Shortly after his graduation
he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He
served honorably for two years, active and returned home in 1968. He
married the former Marsha Ann Hockersmith on July 2, 1970 at
Gainesville, Texas.
John worked some within the pipeline construction industry and for V.E.
of Springer before gaining employment at the Total Refinery, Ardmore.
There he worked until his retirement in 1991. John loved horses and was
an avid hunter. He loved to go hog and coon hunting and was a member of
the Coonhunters Association. Some of his other favorite things to do was
to play the guitar and auctioneer at the Love County Livestock sales and
horse sales. As a young child, John was baptized at the Abner Holiness
Church and later rededicated his faith by baptism at the Well Springs
Church near Marietta. John will be remembered for his love and kindness
to others and who always wanted the best for everyone. He never judged
anyone for their faults and always invited anyone to sit at his table
and have a home-cooked meal.
