Mr. Hockersmith was born June 14, 1917, at Simon, the son of
Thompson Patrick and Annie Mae Roach Hockersmith. He died Friday,
January 2, 2004, at Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
She preceded him in death June 2, 2002.
The
couple first moved to Pike, then to Abner in 1957 where he farmed
and ranched his entire life. Mr. Hockersmith was a member of the
Abner Pentecostal Holiness Church. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Glynda Fetgatter of Ogden, Utah,
and Ann Nipp of Abner; three sons, J.P. Hockersmith of Lone Grove,
Pat Hockersmith of Abner and James H. Hockersmith Jr. of Ogden; a
niece they raised, Sue Meely of Lone Grove; 17 grandchildren and 23
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hockersmith was also preceded in death by his father on February
24, 1964; his mother on August 22, 1995; and a sister, Ruth Cox on
January 19, 1992.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Lynn Hockersmith, Chad Hockersmith,
Billy Fetgatter, Robert Fetgatter, Ocie Wilson and Joshua Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnnie Nipp, Lance Hockersmith, Jennifer
Nipp, Jamie Smith, Melissa Hughes and James H. Hockersmith III.
Interment was in Simon Cemetery, Love County, under the direction of
Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
