Services for Melva Olene “Granny” Johnson, 71, of Rubottom, were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 20 in the Rubottom Baptist Church, Rubottom, with Bro. Jimmy May officiating.

Interment was in the Rubottom Cemetery.

Born September 17, 1937 at Oswalt the daughter of Andrew and Addie Cartwright Swint, she died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at her home in Rubottom. A resident of Love County all of her life, Mrs. Johnson attended school at Meadowbrook and Courtney. She was a homemaker and was employed by Marietta Sportswear, the Cookie Shop in Marietta and Falconhead Country Club.

She married Marvin Harold Johnson, and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1986.

Her hobbies included quilting, reading, crossword and word search puzzles, and taking care of her family and others. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Rubottom Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Billy and Betty Johnson of Zaneis and Jeremy Johnson of the home; five daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Pierce of Marietta, Tanya Manning and Joe Willis, LaRhonda Johnson and Rochelle Richards of Leon, Kim and Dave Burke of Zaneis; two brothers and sister-in-law, Gene Swint of Springdale, Arkansas and Robert and Lanell Swint of Thackerville; brother-in-law, Marion “Toad” Bratcher of Thackerville; sister-in-law, Carolyn Cooper of Jimtown; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Paul Johnson on March 24, 2003; a sister, Voncele Bratcher; an infant sister, Lois Swint; an infant brother, A.J. Swint; three grandsons, Kyle Pierce, Levi Shawn Curbow and Matthew Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Bailey Maytubby and Kaysen Bush.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Michael Manning, Dylan Richards, Todd Pierce, Ethan Manning, Jeremy Willis, Shane Fuston, Adam Fuston and Cory Don Carlile. Honorary pallbearers were grandson, Kendall Burke; and nephews, James Bratcher, Tony Swint, Johnny Swint, Mike Swint and David Swint.
