Interment was in the Rubottom Cemetery.
Born January 21, 1930 at Zaneis, the son of S.A. and Mollie Lillian Taliaferro Blankenship, he died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
Mr. Blankenship was raised at Rubottom and then made his home in Ardmore for 28 years before returning to Rubottom to make his home in 1981. He and Martha Alice Washington were married April 28, 1951, at Gainesville, Texas, and she preceded him in death on October 29, 1999. Mr. Blankenship was employed as a terminal operator at a gas and asphalt dock at the refinery in Ardmore, where he retired. He attended grade school at Keltner and graduated from Courtney. In high school he was a good pitcher on the baseball team. As a young man he liked to farm, tend his cattle, and take care of his tractor. Mr. Blankenship was also an active Mason. His hobbies included camping at the lake and fishing. Mr. Blankenship especially enjoyed the time he could spend with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Rubottom Baptist Church.
Survivors include his companion and best friend, Jeanie Heath; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Julie Blankenship of Piedmont; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Blankenship of Wilson; a brother and sister-in-law, Sam A. and Ann Blankenship of Ardmore; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy Thompson of Rubottom, Shirley and Toney Hearell of Rubottom, and Peggy and Charles McConnell of Duncan; three grandsons, Tommy Blankenship and wife Susan of Lone Grove, Zachary Blankenship and Aaron Blankenship of Piedmont; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsi Christianna Blankenship and Boston Ray Blankenship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Ray Blankenship on September 26, 1993; a granddaughter, Karen L. Blankenship on May 18, 1991; and a brother, Earl Wayne Blankenship on June 24, 2001.
Pallbearers were Tommy Blankenship, Rodney Blankenship, Zach Blankenship, Aaron Blankenship, Warren Blankenship and Steven McConnell. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Gilcrease and Tommy Harris.
