Graveside services for Vernon Ray Whittington, 62, of Denison, Texas, were held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 28, at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro, Texas, with the Rev. Keith Taylor officiating.

Mr. Whittington was born June 5, 1939, in Thackerville, the son of Robert and Pauline Sifford Whittington. He died Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at Texoma Medical Center.

Mr. Whittington served in the U.S. Army and retired as owner of Whittington Tile Company. He and Flo Bowen were married April 6, 1963, in Gainesville, Texas. Mr. Whittington was a member of the Baptist Church and the Denison Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife, Flo Whittington of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brandy and James Doty of Denison and Shelley and Darin Bartholomew of Gilbert, Arizona; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Buckaloo of Marietta; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Wilma Whittington of Denison, James and Verda Whittington of Gainesville, David and Linda Whittington of Woodbine, Texas, and Leon and Barbara Whittington of Thackerville; and three grandchildren, Nicole Doty and Ashley Doty of Denison and Taylor Bartholomew of Gilbert.

Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bratcher Funeral Home, Denison.
