Funeral services for George King Washington, Jr., were held in the Memorial
Chapel in the Arnold Moore Funeral Home in Bartlesville. Mr. Washington died
July 23, 1999, in Bartlesville, at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 24, 1919, in Marietta, the son of the late George K. and Pearl Mitchell Washington. Mr. Washington was also the grandson of the late J.C. (Jerry) Washington, prominent rancher and benefactor who gave the land for the original townsite of Marietta.
Mr. Washington graduated from Abilene High School, Abilene, Texas, and from the University of Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy during World Warr II, 1941-1944. Mr. Washington and the former Betty Poggemeyer were married in 1944, and she preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Washington was retired from
Phillips Petroleum Company.
Survivors include a son, George K. Washington III of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Terisa Baker and Mrs. Martha Lou Myers, also of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Ben (Martha) Smith of Vernon, Texas; and four grandchildren of Houston.
