Services for Aubrey L. Whatley, 72, a longtime Wilson resident, were held at 2
p.m., Thursday, May 24, in the Assembly of God Church in Wilson, with the Rev.
Jim Gillum, the Rev. Sid Bazzrea and Jane Bulter officiating.
Mr. Whatley was born April 22, 1929, in Grady, the son of Elbert Seth and Union
America "Craze" Whatley. He died Monday, May 21, 2001, at his residence in
Wilson.
He lived in the Mud Creek area until he married the former Elizabeth Croan on
May 17, 1949, in Gainesville, Texas. They made their home in Wilson where Mr.
Whatley worked in the oilfields and Iron Workers. He was a member of the
Ironworkers Local #48, Oklahoma City, and Ironworkers Local #592, Wichita
Falls, Texas. Mr. Whatley was a generous giver, enjoyed gardening, was a
baseball coach, loved children and his family and activities with them.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth of the home; a daughter and
son-in-law, Jane and Dale Butler of Ringling; four sons and daughters-in-law,
Junior and Kay Whatley, Jarvis and Tanya Whatley and Jeff and Robin Whatley of
Wilson, and Jake and Mildred Whatley of Ardmore; three sisters, Syble Ashley of
Lone Grove, Dorothy Glenn of Ringling and Opal Richardson of Ryan; four
brothers, Hubert Whatley of Lone Grove, Eugene Whatley of Wichita Falls, Texas,
Lonnie Whatley of Chickasha and Loyal Whatley of Marietta; devoted caregiver,
Brenda Way of Wilson; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of
nieces and nephews.
Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Johnnie B. Whatley on
July 5, 1999; a sister and two brothers.
Pallbearers were Reece Holliman, Bill Russell, Joe Boswell, Sonny Grissom,
Michael O'Daniel and Charlie Ammons.
Honorary pallbearers were R.L. Dewbre, Montie Allred, Henry Fowler, Randy
Jackson, Steve Price and Dale Butler.
Interment was in Hewitt Cemetery, Wilson, under the direction of Alexander
Funeral Home, Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 1514 Meadow Lane,
Ardmore, OK 73401.
