Services for Marie Louise Cooper Thornton, 94, of Marietta, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 28, at Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie, Texas, with the Rev. Ronnie Carroll and the Rev. Phillip Freeman officiating.

Mrs. Thornton was born January 7, 1907, in Milford, Texas, the daughter of J.R. and Clara Mantooth Vaughan. She died Sunday, December 23, 2001, in Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore.

Mrs. Thornton had made her home in Love County for the past six years. She was a retired seamstress for Haggar Slacks. She was married to Gene Cooper for 49 years, and he preceded her in death in 1974. She then was married to Dodson Leon Thornton for 24 years, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1999. Mrs. Thornton was a member of Christ Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Marietta. Prior to moving to Oklahoma, she attended Southpark Assembly of God of Waxahachie.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Pat Cooper of Frost, Texas; four daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Aubrey Pugh and Carolyn Warren of Marietta, Bonnie and Lloyd Richard of Waxahachie and Joyce Stalter of Dallas, Texas; a brother, James Vaughan of Paris, Texas; two sisters, Lorene Dawson of Frost and Iva Gutherie of Rice, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous friends, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thornton was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Imogene Cooper; a granddaughter, Brenda Stalter; four brothers, Cecil Vaughan, Homer Vaughan, Carl Vaughan and Richard Vaughan; and two sisters, Velma Cannon and Sybil Vaughan.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Bobby Richard, Billy Richard, Silvano Rodriguez, Gregg Newman, Jeff Langston, Ronald Simmons, Stanley Pendley Jr. and Gary Cooper. Honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons, Tony Rodriguez, Jarrod Richard, Josh Richard, Jason York, Gregory Newman, Justin Richard, Buddy Stalter, Joey York, Brandon York, Michael Phillips, Aaron Phillips and Randy Palomino.

The family will receive friends at Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday, December 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Waxahachie, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
