Graveside services for Gerald W. Tucker, 75, of Oswalt, were held at 11 a.m.,
Saturday, October 6, at Oswalt Cemetery, with the Rev. Monte Dean and the Rev.
Mike Williams officiating.
Mr. Tucker was born July 9, 1926, in Oswalt, the son of Steve A. and Addie Bell
Pierce Tucker. He died Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at Mercy Memorial Health
Center in Ardmore.
Born and raised at Oswalt, Mr. Tucker was the youngest of five children. He
attended school at Oswalt and Greenville and graduated from Meadowbrook High
School in 1943. He then attended Murray State College in Tishomingo. He and
Sarah Grace Morgan Hodges were married September 10, 1949, at Gainesville,
Texas, and had just celebrated 52 years of marriage. After they married, they
settled one-fourth mile west of Mr. Tucker's birthplace where he farmed,
ranched, worked in the oilfields, raised his family and lived out the remainder
of his life. Mr. Tucker had coached Little League Baseball and was a 32nd
Degree Mason. He was originally a member of the Simon Masonic Lodge and had
moved to the Lone Grove lodge. Mr. Tucker had recently received his 50-year
Masonic Pin.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Tucker of the home; his children, Sue Ann and
Jim Jenne of Dallas, Texas, Nancy Bell and Larry Gunter of Rexroat, Deborah Kay
and Sam Cain of Marietta, Gerald A. "Butch" Tucker and Jeannine Hicks of Oswalt
and Bobby Gene and Barbara Hodges of Simon; three grandsons they raised, Steve
Tucker, Bobby Tucker and T.J. Tucker; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
and a sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and W.L. Futch of Irving, Texas.
Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his father, Steve A. Tucker on October 26,
1963; his mother, Addie B. Tucker on August 9, 1964; two sisters, Augusta Opal
Lay in 1994 and Gladys Bridwell in 1997; and a brother, S.A. Tucker in 1998.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Frankie Hodges, Sammy Cain, Jerry Cain, David Cain,
Larry Gunter, Joe Gunter, Steve Tucker, Bobby Tucker and T.J. Tucker. Honorary
pallbearers were granddaughters, Melissa Hodges, Robin Hodges Whatley, Kristen
Jenne Lovell, Sarah Gunter Farrell, Rachel Gunter and Kayla Tucker.
Services were under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
