Services for Walter D. Skaggs were Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Higle, pastor of Marietta's First Baptist Church, officiating.
Born January 6, 1918, at DeQueen, Arkansas, the son of L.S. and Loney Kirksey Skaggs, Mr. Skaggs died October 9, 1994, in the Veterans Center in Sulphur.
He had lived in Sulphur since 1990, moving there from Marietta. Mr. Skaggs was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M and a retired Agriculture Extension Agent of Caddo County. He served during World War II and taught agriculture in Baghdad, Iraq as part of the Point Four Program of Nomadic Affairs. Mr. Skaggs later served as Sergeant of Arms in the Oklahoma Legislature for one term. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Oklahoma City.
Survivors include two sisters, Leacy Johnson and Gracie Bolds of Marietta; a half-sister, Clara Darnell of Bakersfield, California; several nieces and great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery.
