Services for Loyd A. “L.A.” Sloan were conducted Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the Church of Christ. Officiating were Mr. Floyd Johnson and Mr. Ray Hilliard.
Mr. Sloan was born August 1, 1921, at Oswalt and died August 28, 1992, at his home in Marietta at the age of 71. He was the son of Clinton and Oma Chapman Sloan.
A resident of Marietta for the past seven years, Mr. Sloan had previously made his home in Ringling. A veteran of World War II having served in the Army, Mr. Sloan retired from the State Highway Department and had also worked in the oilfield. He married Lucille Jackson March 14, 1942, in Marietta. Mr. Sloan was a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Sloan of the home; his mother, Mrs. Oma Sloan of Marietta; a son, Rex Sloan of Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters, Eula Hedrick and Virginia Debrick of Irving, Texas, and Norma Cowley of Bedford, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Sloan was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and a sister.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Dale Sloan, Denny Sloan, Randall Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, Harold Garrett, and Gary Jackson. Honorary bearers include Ernie Jones, Bill Jackson, Robert Casey, Gene Prather, and Raymond Jackson.
