Services for James Patrick Smith, 72, of Winnsboro, Texas, were held at 2 p.m.,
Friday, November 24, at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro, with Thomas
Smith officiating.
Mr. Smith was born April 9, 1928, in Thackerville, the son of Nat J. and Audye
Lynch Smith. He died Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at his residence.
He had been a resident of Winnsboro for 24 years, and was a member of
Simpsonville Church of Christ. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Air Force during
World War II. He was retired and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Smith of the home; one son, Thomas
Nathaniel Smith of Charleston, West Virginia; one step-son, Joe Looney of
Winnsboro; five daughters, Pamela Jo Gibbs of Ardmore, Joyce Beth Proctor and
Lea Ann Scott of Arlington, Donna Reeves of Fort Worth, Texas, and Connie Kam
of Grand Prairie, Texas; one step-daughter, Cindy Nyez of New Mexico; two
brothers, Kenneth W. Smith of Boise, Idaho, and John R. Smith of
Gainesville, Texas; two sisters, Linda Adams of Frankston, Texas, and Mary Lou
Hutchins of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and eight
step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack Smith
and Curtis C. Smith.
Pallbearers were Daryl Hern, Red James, Sam Mullin, Jeff Orsburn, Carl Davis
and Ron Lowman. Honorary pallbearers were Rayburn Denver, George Shirley and Joe Morris.
Interment was in the 4-D Cemetery, Wood County, Texas, under the direction of
Beaty Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
